Frequently Asked Questions
What size kidney stones need surgical or laser treatment?
Stones smaller than 5 mm often pass with medication and hydration. Stones 6 mm or larger, or those causing hydronephrosis (kidney swelling) or intractable pain, require endo-urological intervention.
Is laser stone surgery painful?
The procedure is performed entirely under anaesthesia so you feel no discomfort. Mild burning during urination for 2-3 days afterwards is normal and managed with medication.
What is a DJ stent and when is it removed?
A double-J stent is a soft, temporary internal tube placed to protect kidney drainage after stone removal. It is removed in OPD after 1 to 3 weeks in a quick 2-minute daycare procedure.
